Call for Nominations Representative Assembly Members

Nominations are now open for Representative Assembly members.  Those elected will have a three-year term of office beginning July 1, 2012 and ending June 30, 2015.

Criteria for office: To be nominated for a position on the Representative Assembly, you must be a current member in good standing.  The bylaws state (amended 10/04/08):

Article V. Section 2. The Representative Assembly shall:

a. be the governing body of the organization, subject to the final authority of the membership,

c. consist of members of the organization elected by the members of the organization in specific constituencies as follows:

i.)  there shall be elected at each MAU one representative for each fifty (50) dues paying Bargaining Unit Members, or fraction thereof, according to established procedures.  All MAU’s are entitled to a minimum of two (2) representatives. [Current RAs: UAF 13; UAA 10 and UAS 2]

ii.)  the number of Representatives shall not exceed 30.

e.  meet regularly for the purpose of establishing the policies of the organization, receiving and reviewing the reports of the President, Executive Board, and Committees, taking appropriate action as specified in the Constitution, and initiating and taking other such actions as the body deems necessary.

i.)  The Representative Assembly meets bi-annually in Anchorage.  It may meet more often and/or at other sites by majority vote of the Representative Assembly.

Procedure: To have your name placed on the ballot you must obtain the signatures of current full dues paying union members (not agency fee payers) in good standing (see attached form which also indicates the number of signatures required).  The form for obtaining these signatures is also available via the union web site home page (http://unitedacademics.net/news/) under the “Forms & Docs” heading and the form may also be obtained from members of the Elections Committee.  An Elections Committee member from your MAU will inform you that your nomination has been accepted and that your name has been placed on the ballot.  The results of the election will be made available after the second Monday in April.  Previous petitions have on occasion been shown to contain one or more invalid signatures (e.g. signatures of non-UNAC members) you are therefore strongly encouraged to obtain more than the minimum number of signatures and thus avoid possible invalidation of your petition.

Deadline: The completed nomination form with the required number of valid signatures must be returned to a member of the Elections Committee NO LATER THAN 5:00 PM on Tuesday March 13, 2012. This is a firm deadline, as the ballots must be prepared and then immediately distributed to the membership.  YOUR PETITION MUST BE TURNED IN BY THIS DEADLINE.
